The Sober Joy Show

Sara Perry
I’m a Certified High Performance Coach and founder of SPARK Joy Coaching. I call myself a Joy Coach because my mission is to help women like me who have suffered from disease, addiction, anxiety, and hopelessness— find and follow their joy! I teach Joy Practices in areas of mindfulness, wellness, spirituality, and personal growth.
I am a grateful recovering addict and that transformative experience is at the heart of my coaching practice and service-driven mission. Mindfulness practices and community are the foundation of my recovery journey. I love teaching other women how to recover their most radiant selves through the tools and practices I’ve studied and implemented in my own life and offering an empowering space to support each other on that journey.
I’m a lifelong performer, theatre artist, creator, and maker who loves bringing my imaginary world to life and collaborating with others to tell stories. I have my M.F.A. in Acting & Devising from The Ohio State University, which basically means I have a master’s degree in make-believe ( dreams & creation) and the human experience (feeling and story). Being a student of acting means being a student of people and our stories. I am endlessly fascinated by people’s journeys, how they feel, and understanding why they do what they do.
At the center of each of us are our imaginations, our mind’s eye, our emotional life, and the story we create for ourselves each day. What we believe, what we see, how we feel, and what we do. I believe my life’s work is to champion people in exploring these arenas through modes of creative expression and with inspiring coaching practices.
The pandemic called me to pivot away from my previous career as an inclusive theatre educator and artist, and launch my skills and leadership into the arena of personal coaching. I love sharing stories, creating intimate connections, and collaborating with others. I truly believe that sharing our stories is the key to healing, belonging, and true personal transformation. That’s why 12-Step based recovery programs work; they create community by sharing stories, which offers deep healing, and build belonging. It’s my aim to bring this love of authentic connection and story forward into my coaching work and the content I create.
I am a California girl born and raised, currently residing in Chicago with my husband and emotional support unicorn. Both of whom have been imperative to my survival and joy. Meditating and writing daily, being outside, and moving my body to music are my favorite joy practices that help me feel like me. I am happiest when I am by a body of water laughing and lounging with people I love.
